MotoSense

The current challenge of developing high-performance engines and catalytic converters with low fuel consumption and ultra-low emissions requires very fast, sensitive and precise emission measurement systems.

The V&F MotoSense serves as a powerful tool for automotive and catalyst researchers with which to study organic hydrocarbons, inorganic nitrogen or sulfur emissions in exhaust gas. Fast response times of 20 msec and a highly dynamic measuring range of 1 to 104enable the accurate study of transient processes.

LubeSense

Engine oil loss is a severe problem in today’s engine development. Downsizing engines together with turbocharging, reducing piston ring thickness in combination with increased cylinder pressures result in engine oil loss. Minimizing oil loss requires knowledge of the engine conditions in which this occurs.

Especially when operating engines in transient conditions, a device for real-time measurements is essential to obtain time-resolved oil consumption profiles. The V&F LubeSense has been specifically designed for this task. In combination with the V&F GasOxidizer, oil consumption quantities can now be determined on-line using the SO2 tracer method.

FuelSense

Fuel that is mixed with engine oil has a significant influence on the lubricating properties of the engine oil and consequently on the friction and wear of components in the combustion engine. Increased amounts of fuel in the engine oil lead to a reduction in the oil viscosity and consequently to reduced friction as well as to increased wear.

Especially for transient engine operation, a device for real-time measurements is indispensable to obtain time-resolved oil dilution values. The V&F FuelSense has been specifically designed for this task. In combination with the V&F LubeSampler oil dilution can now be determined on-line.

HydrogenSense

The use of hydrogen containing impurities can cause damage to fuel cells after a short period of time. To counter this, guidelines for appropriate hydrogen purity have been established in International Standards ISO 14687:2019 and SAE J2719, which specify the maximum allowable impurity levels for compounds such as H2O, O2, He, N2, Ar, CO, CO2, TS, THC, HCHO, HCOOH, NH3, HBr, HCl und Cl2.

The V&F HydrogenSense is a combination of an electron impact (EI-MS) and a ion-molecule reaction (IMR-MS) mass spectrometer in one analyzer unit to measure all impurities in hydrogen for PEM fuel cells.

PEMSense

The V&F PEMSense is an electron impact mass spectrometer (EI-MS) for rapid measurement of H2, N2, O2, H2O und CO2 on PEM fuel cells.

The analyzer is equipped with a dual sample gas inlet. On the anode side with a gas flow of < 60 ml/min and on the cathode or exhaust gas with a gas flow of < 3000 ml/min.

Hydrogen and helium mass spectrometer

HSense

The V&F HSense is a mass spectrometer based on the principle of electron impact ionization (EI-MS), optimized to rapidly and reliably measure H2 and He. By using the EI ion source, the sample gas components are ionized, focused, and then separated in a magnetic field to measure hydrogen and helium.

The V&F HSense is available with different gas inlet systems to compensate for pressure variations, optimize the amount of sample gas withdrawn, and ensures accurate measurement.

Any impurity due to condensation or particles is minimized by the integrated 2 µm fine filter and the integrated sample gas conditioning system eliminates existing moisture in the sample gas.
