V&F welcomes Christopher Carl as Sales Manager, Western and Eastern Europe

V&F Analyse- und Messtechnik GmbH has appointed Christopher Carl as Sales Manager for Western and Eastern Europe. Christopher has a degree as a chemical engineer and brings many years of sales experience in analytical instruments, especially in mass specs.

Christopher Carl is based in Frankfurt (Germany) and he will offer application engineering assistance, machine demonstration and service. He can be reached at +49 (69) 9895 9858 or christopher.carl@vandf.com.

Exchange set for defective voltage selector switches is available

We use the pre-vacuum diaphragm pumps MV2 and MV2 NT since 2009 within our IMR-MS analyzers. Those pumps are equipped with a voltage selector switch to enable 110V or 220V power supply.

In a few cases the pre-vacuum pump didn’t work due to a defective voltage selector switch. This new article allows a service technician to exchange the defective voltage selector switch instead of the complete diaphragm pump.

This article is applicable for all diaphragm pumps of the types MV2 and MV2 NT within the following analyzers:

New documents published on the V&F website

 Depending on the local power supply (110V or 220V AC) we have used different sample pumps inside of our mass specs. Now there is a new sample pump available that has got the same throughput of 3l/min and additionally can be configured for 100V or 220V power supply.

This new sample pump will be assembled in all new instruments with a pumped gas inlet. This article is compatible with all analyzer instruments of the 2011 series or newer.

New Fieldbus interfaces and protocols available

Fieldbus is the name of a family of industrial computer network protocols used for real-time distributed control, standardized as IEC 61158.

A complex automated industrial system usually needs a distributed control system—an organized hierarchy of controller systems—to function. In this hierarchy, there is usually a Human Machine Interface (HMI) at the top, where an operator can monitor or operate the system.

This is typically linked to a middle layer of programmable logic controllers (PLC) via a non-time-critical communications system (e.g. Ethernet).

At the bottom of the control chain is the fieldbus that links the PLCs to the components that actually do the work, such as sensors, actuators, electric motors, console lights, switches, valves and contactors. The complete range of V&F mass spectrometers can be configured to interface with any PLC system using any Fieldbus network protocol.

Actually we support the following Fieldbus protocols:

Mass Flow Controller based dilution system available

In some applications the concentration of the measured components are quite high. In such cases the MFC based Dilution System - an add-on product for the V&F process mass spectrometers equipped with a capillary inlet - could be used. It allows a dilution of the sample gas down to a factor of 20.

This is realized with an integrated mass flow controller, which adds a dilution gas to the sample gas by injecting it between outer and central capillary. The only prerequisite for the use of this solution is constant pressure at the sampling point.

Available standard dilution steps (futher upon request):

  • 1:2
  • 1:4
  • 1:5
  • 1:8
  • 1:10
  • 1:20

The advantages are:

  • Hardware (MFC and filter) is completely integrated inside of the analyzer
  • Adjustment of the dilution steps is fully software controlled
  • The dilution rate can easily be selected in each setup
  • Even switching of dilution rates within one setup is possible (see figure)

AK-Interface for GasOxidizer available

The V&F GasOxidizer can be controlled manually by using the V&F GasOxidizer software. The later runs on any Windows PC that is connected via a USB or an Ethernet cable. In some cases the customer would like to operate the V&F GasOxidizer in an AK-environment by their AK-master system.

This is now possible by using the brand new AK-interface for GasOxidizer!

Features, benefits:

  • GasOxidizer can be operated within an AK-environment
  • No additional hardware required
  • Easy software installation on any standard Windows PC

The AK-interface has been included in the latest version of the V&F GasOxidizer software that acts as an AK-slave. You just need to order a software license (V&F article number 800355) and implement the new AK instructions in the AK-master system.

Heated Rheodyne filter unit available

For some applications the small Rheodyne sinter filters (discs with a diameter of 6.4 mm and a thickness of 1.6mm) are a good solution.

The advantages of these filters are:

  • Very low dead volume
  • Nearly no loss in T90 time
  • Cheap

These filters can be used with any V&F analyzer equipped with a capillary gas inlet system.

Brand new analyzer V&F MotoSense has been released

Today’s challenges in developing high performance, low consumption and ultra-low emission engine and catalyst designs demand very fast, sensitive and detailed emission monitoring systems.

The V&F MotoSense  serves as a powerful tool to study organic HC as well as inorganic N and S gaseous emissions in raw exhaust gas and tail pipe by automotive and catalyst researchers. Fast gas response times of 20 msec and a high dynamic range of 1 to 104 enable detailed study of nonsteady processes.

The following substances can be analyzed:

  • N-Components: Ammonia (NH3), Nitric oxide (NO), Nitrogen dioxide (NO2)
  • S-Components: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), Carbonyl sulfide (COS), Sulfur dioxide (SO2), Carbon disulfide (CS2), Methyl mercaptane (CH3SH), Ethyl mercaptane / Dimethyl sulfide (C2H5SH)
  • HC-Components: Methane (CH4), Acetylene (C2H2), Ethene (C2H4), Propene|C3H6), 1,3 Butadiene (C4H6), Benzene|C6H6), Toluene (C7H8), Styrene (C8H8), Xylene / Ethylbenzene(C8H10)

The advantages are:

  • wide dynamic range with lowest detection limits
  • fast response time
  • high selectivity for S components (H2S, SO2, COS, CS2)
  • automatic pressure regulation ranging from 0.1 to 5 bar
  • integrated matrix – correction – calculation and auto-calibration
  • temperature controlled gas inlet, no sample preparation (wet, ambient air) needed
  • filter for particulates
  • user friendly software package - operator interface with 4-button control
  • minimized service- and operation costs

Brand new analyzer V&F LubeSense has been released

Engine oil loss is a severe problem in today’s engine development. Downsizing engines together with turbocharging, reducing piston ring thickness in combination with increased cylinder pressures result in engine oil loss. Minimizing oil loss requires knowledge of the engine states in which it occurs.

Especially for transient engine operation real-time measurement instrumentation is obligatory in order to obtain time resolved oil consumption profiles. The V&F LubeSense has been specifically designed for this task. In combination with the V&F GasOxidizer oil consumption rates can now be determined online by means of the SO2 tracer method.

The advantages are:

  • wide dynamic range with lowest detection limits for SO2
  • robust and reliable
  • online oil consumption measurements on diesel, gasoline and CNG engines
  • high in sensitivity and selectivity

HSense has been redesigned

Since the first release of the HSense hydrogen and helium mass spectrometer in 1998 many modifications and improvements have been done. The actual 2014 model contains the following improvements:

  • New magnetic sector field mass spectrometer
  • New magnetic coupled rotary vane pump
  • New gas cooling device
  • New flowmeter with max. 5 l/min as the sampling flow is around 2.5 l/min
  • Optional new gas inlet system for low gas consumption (< 10ml/min) is available

Modbus RTU interface and protocol is available

V&F offers several communication interfaces one is the family of Fieldbus protocols. Wihtin the Fieldbus family we already offer EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Powerlink, PROFINET IO-RT, Sercos, Varan, Profibus DP and Open Modbus TCP.

Besides these protocols we do now offer also ModBus RTU (Remote Terminal Unit). Using ModBus RTU the data will be transmitted in binary form and this provides a high data throughput.
